Teen Summer STEAM Challenge: Humans and the Ocean

Date: Monday, July 4, 2022

Time: All Day

Program Type: Arts/Crafts, Games, Science/Tech

Age Group: Teens

Program Description

Teens (grades 6-12) participate in the Teen Summer STEAM Challenge to earn extra prizes.

These activities can be found under "Activity Badges" when you register for "Teen Summer Reading Club 2022" in Beanstack.

Each week a new set of themed activities will be released.

You only have to complete one of the activities to earn that week’s badge and a small prize you can pick up at the Children’s Desk at Greenfield or Sugar Creek.

Earn all six badges to be entered to win a microscope!

Just now starting the STEAM challenge? Don't worry! Once a themed week has been released you can do any of the activities to earn that week's badge until August 1.

Week 5: Humans and the Ocean

Humans have interacted with the ocean since ancient times and probably even further back.

We have found ways to transverse its waters and explore underneath its waves.

Complete at least one of the following activities under the "Humans and the Ocean" badge:

  • Solve the mystery as to why the lunch of the Alvin's crew survived over a year without decaying.
  • Play Cards Against Calamity, a free online game.
  • Complete the History of Oceanography crossword.
  • Represent your favorite sea creature myth in visual art or writing.
  • Complete the Nautical Chart Challenge.
